Missing Scene for Switchman by R'rain "Last week? How often does he come in?" asked one of the visiting detectives incredulously. The idea of a detective being on stakeout for days seemed utterly foreign to him. Carolyn gave an inward groan. "He doesn't," she said simply. Accusingly. "Jim works in his own way. He won't be in until *he* thinks it's over." "If you'd like to follow Detective Andresson, she'll give you a tour of our facilities before we get started," interrupted Simon, nodding and smiling at the visiting officers as they stood up and followed the tall, brown-haired detective out of the conference room. When he and Lieutenant Plummer were alone in the room, he closed the door. "Bitter much?" Carolyn sighed and let herself be enveloped by her lover's arms. "Even after all this time, the guy drives me nuts, Simon." "It hasn't been so long," he reassured her, "and if it's any comfort, he drives me nuts, too." She laughed. "Yeah, that helps a little," she admitted. "But it's not just work...I just look at him and I still remember walking into our apartment, seeing him fucking on the couch with some rookie on the force." Simon nodded. "You never did tell me who she was," he said, kissing the top of Carolyn's head. She snorted indelicately. "I also never said it was a 'she'. If it had been, maybe I would have tried harder to work things out." She laced her fingers through Simon's and leaned back against his solid chest. "Wait a minute," he said. "Wait just a minute here. Are you telling me that you caught Ellison in bed with a *man*?" She sighed. "Maybe I shouldn't have said anything; it doesn't matter now. But the guy, sometimes I want to strangle him. Why don't you call him in out of the field?" Simon shook off the shock and confusion still washing over him and kissed her again. "Because no matter how unorthodox his methods, Jim gets results. I'm not going to go and mess with that in the middle of a case, damn what the visiting detectives think." "You'd damn what everyone thought if you could," she said, satisfied. There was a comfortable silence between them for a moment. "You gonna be okay with what I told you about Jim?" she asked finally. "Yeah, I will be," he sighed. "Now I can hold out hope that if he finds the right guy to settle down with, it might civilize him a little." She laughed as she grudgingly pulled out of his embrace. "I need to get back down to the lab. Dinner tonight?" "Of course," he said with a fond smile. "See you then." ~!@!~
